Wolves have agreed a club record deal to land Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes, 90min understands.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of intense interest this summer and he is now finally on the move to the Premier League.

Liverpool and Manchester City have been linked in the past few weeks, while David Moyes revealed recently that West Ham had failed to persuade the player to move to the London Stadium.

Indeed, 90min understands that Nunes had rejected a move to Wolves back in June – instead waiting to see what options would emerge.

But Wolves have worked hard to persuade Nunes to make the move to England where he will pen a five-year deal negotiated by Jorge Mendes, who has finalised a host of big deals for the Black Country outfit in recent years.

Scott Saunders, Graeme Bailey & Sean Walsh bring you Talking Transfers, discussing Man Utd’s transfer market implosion in targeting deals for Adrien Rabiot & Marko Arnautovic, Man City’s stance on selling Bernardo Silva to Barcelona, Wilfried Zaha’s future and more. Available on all audio platforms and the 90min YouTube channel.

Wolves have had to dig deep to land Nunes, agreeing a €50m (£42.5m) deal including add-ons, surpassing the £35m they paid for Fabio Silva last summer.

The deal for Nunes will take Wolves’ spending beyond the £100m, having paid out for Hwang Hee-Chan, Nathan Collins and Nunes’ international team-mate Goncalo Guedes.
