Report by Nana Anfreh DAMANATA
The Assembly Member of Asampu Electoral Area in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region,
Kurinaa James has revealed that 12 people died in five years due to the deplorable nature of their roads.
He said five (5) pregnant women died in labour while 7 children lost their lives between 2019 and 2024
due to the state of the roads in the area during that period.
Honourable Kurinaa James revealed this in an interview with the host of the Afisem show on Radio West
Africa, Nana Anfreh Damanata on Friday morning.
He noted that sick children and pregnant women in labour are usually carried on motorcycle popularly
known as Motor King for miles because vehicles avoid coming to the area due to the deplorable nature
of their roads.
The Assembly Member is urgently appealing for the establishment of a CHPS compound to address the
severe lack of healthcare facilities, particularly for maternal care.
He made a heartfelt appeal to government through the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, the Member of
Parliament for the area, NGOs, and philanthropists and those known for their generosity towards the
community, to once again extend their support by helping establish a CHPS compound.
Honourable Kurinaa James emphasized that the nearest healthcare facilities at Nchiraa or Offuman are
far away and accessing them is both dangerous and difficult.
He stated that despite reporting their plight to the district assembly, they have yet to receive any
positive response.
He hoped his plea will be heard, and action will be taken to provide much-needed healthcare services in
the electoral area.
