The Chief Media Anti- Galamsey Campaigner, Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey has sworn that he and his media
group will do ANATHING applicable, including subjecting the two leading parties, NPP and NDC to
signing an undertaking to stop the Galamsey menace in the country.
Speaking to this reporter in an exclusive interview, the CEO of Ghana Chamber of Communication
expressed his deepest worry over the canker that is bedeviling and eating up our water bodies in the
country on all fronts that needs an immediate solution.
"Let me reiterate that the situation has reached a tipping point where it has gone beyond the stage of
politicking and the child's play. Something DRASTIC must be applied to offset the problem as soon as
practicable," he said.
He alluded to the fact that the whole country is at risk and in danger of epidemic and extinction if all our
water bodies get completely destroyed by these nation wreckers.
“Our food items are laden with metals, people are dying each day, etc,” he said.
Dr. Ashibgey showed pictures of children born with unsightly deformities that looked very scary and
miserable. Certain organs of the body were devastated and badly damaged according to doctors in the
country.
In the pictures, children born with warped hands and legs, protruding eyes, tiny ears, pointed tooth,
rashes on their skins, stunted necks and waists, etc.
"Today, Galamsey has moved from mere gold finding and riches to fatalities and death traps.
“Heavy metals are found in our river bodies.
“We all stand to contract various diseases, and it's about time we all stood up and put pressure on the
political parties to commit themselves to eradicate this scourge. Otherwise, we are all going to die one
day," he said.
The CEO vehemently disagreed with the notion by the two leading parties who are afraid of taking bold,
decisive steps to halt the galamsey with the fear of being punished politically.
According to him, this is a national crisis that must be ironed out with bold political decision-making by the
two parties who are seeking the mandate of the people.
“The president must move and listen to the voice of the people and not think of political power, but the
lives of millions of Ghanaians calling for safety and survival.
“Today, people suffering from galamsey are far more than the beneficiaries, and so politicians must
respond accordingly.
“We cannot sit down for a few greedy, selfish illegal miners to ruin our dear lives and that of our children
and grandchildren," he said.
