It has been suggested by the Member of Parliament for Ellembele, Armah Kofi Buah that members be allowed to use local languages to contribute to debate on the floor of Parliament.
The Daily Searchlight believes that this is a worthy proposition that ought to be given due consideration.
At the same time, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Aduagyiri, Frank Annoh Dompreh, who is also the Majority Chief Whip, has stated that plans are far advanced to equip Parliament with a language translating App to assist with translation.
The Daily Searchlight believes that the two suggestions are easy to implement, particularly with the assistance of language software to assist with translation.
With the software in place, members can contribute in the language they prefer, and the contribution can be translated in real time so that other members can hear and assimilate what is said.
The two suggestions should be taken on board, so that the barrier created against members who are not fluent in local languages, can be overcome.
