The West African Examination Council (WAEC) says management will continue to explore innovative ways and measures to fight examination malpractices particularly leakages of question papers and other illegal activities in the production space.
According to WAEC, it is committed to conduct credible examination in the public interest in the wake of the numerous challenges the Council is confronted with in the conduct of examinations.
“The Council have further put in place a comprehensive framework as well as other interventions to limit human involvement in the question papers production value chain through digital process,” it said and stressed that management will embark on restructuring and retooling the Council and the use of parallel tests and ensure the usage of variable data printing among others.
The Head of Public Affairs of WAEC, Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe was reacting to Education Watch, a “think tank” on the 2021 WASSCE Ghana monitoring report at a news conference in Accra.
She said the Council have reviewed the contents of the report and have observed that most of the issues raised were matters that the Council had dealt with during the Council’s 1st and 2nd updates on the examination.
Throwing more light on some inaccuracies contained in the report, she said the Council have addressed the issue of food and nutrition papers and finds it baffling that Eduwatch continues to refer to the said paper as having leaked.
Secondly, one of the schools namely Insaniyaa SHS (No.12) reported to have been monitored by Eduwatch does not currently exist and explained that the school was closed down in January 2021, adding that no candidate was registered by the said school for the WASSCE (SC) 2021 and neither was it used as an examination centre.
In addition, Beposoman SHS (No. 1) was not on the Council’s list of participating schools for WASSCE (SC) 2021 but rather list of schools for the examination including Ghana Muslim Mission SHS Beposo (No. 40) among others.
“Our doors remain open for discussions and suggestions which ties into the Council’s vision to be a world class examining body adding value to the educational goals of its stakeholders”, she said.
“The Council expressed its thanks to the Education ministry, Parliamentary Select Committee on Education and other players in the education space for the discussions and engagements aimed at addressing and finding solutions to the canker of examination malfeasance”, she said.
