VICE PRESIDENT, NPP MOURNS THE LOSS OF A LOYAL SON

The Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed shock and sadness over the death of Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah.

The New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, in his message of mourning for the young politician, paid a glowing tribute to him, describing John Kumah as a committed member of the party NPP and the government which he has been an integral part of until his passing.

“A truly committed member of our administration, and party, who dedicated his all to the success of our endeavours. Rest well John” Dr. Bawumia wrote on his social media handles.

Meanwhile the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says that it has learnt with grief the shocking demise of Hon. Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, Deputy Minister for Finance and Member of Parliament for Ejisu

Constituency, which sad event occurred on March 7, 2024.

According to Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the party, even before his ascension to national political limelight, Hon. Kumah showed signs of leadership in his teenage years as he was elected School Prefect for the Opoku Ware School.

“He was an energetic Party stalwart whose relentless activism was instrumental in the formation of Young Patriots, a youth group that championed the cause of the Party from 2009 to 2016.

“Owing to his business and entrepreneurial acumen, Hon. Kumah was appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer for the National Entrepreneurial and Innovation Programme (NEIP) during the first tenure of the Akufo-Addo administration. His impressive management of NEIP led to his elevation as Deputy Minister for Finance in 2021, a position he held until his demise.

“As Member of Parliament for Ejisu Constituency, Hon. Kumah demonstrated profound passion and commitment to the needs of his constituents which resulted in his recent acclamation as the Party’s 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency.

The New Patriotic Party takes solace in his legacy of hard work and dedication to our dear country and extends our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, particularly his wife and children and the people of Ejisu for this great loss.

“As a mark of respect in his honour, the Party directs that all Party flags fly at half-mast for the next seven days,” the NPP stated.

Meanwhile the Vice President described John Kumah who has been the Member of Parliament for Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region, as a lawyer and an entrepreneur with over 15 years experience in leadership, creativity, innovation and resourcefulness in creating jobs, and supporting youth development.

He was first CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) where he successfully positioned the NEIP as the enabler of the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Ghana.

Prior to working for government, Kumah was the founding member and Managing Partner of Aduaprokye Chambers, a law firm. He also worked as the founder of Majak Associates Ltd, a building and construction company.

In November 2020, John Ampontuah Kumah received a Doctorate in Business Innovation from the Swiss Business School in Switzerland. Before then, he had acquired a Masters in Applied Business Research, at the same Business School in 2019.

His rich educational background includes a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Business Research in 2019 at Nobel International Business School (NIBS). In 2009, he had an Executive Masters degree in Business Administration (Finance), from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

At the University of Ghana, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with Philosophy, a Bachelor of Art Degree (Law) LLB in 2011 and a Professional Law Certificate from the Ghana School of Law in 2013. He was admitted to the Ghana Bar in 2013.

John Kumah’s death was reported in the afternoon of Thursday, March 7 2024.
