About three hundred (300) selected staff of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), have undergone a trainer of trainers’ program sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The participants were regional and district staff comprising, Directors, Managers, Public Relations Officers and Client attendants from the Volta, Oti, Greater Accra, Western, and some parts of the Eastern Regions.
They acquired in-depth knowledge on customer service and relationship building, effective writing, communication, marketing and branding skills as well as the Call Centre mandate and recurring challenges.
The trainer of trainers’ exercise was jointly organized in Accra by the Corporate Affairs Directorate (CAF) and Training and Development Unit of the Administration and Human Resource Directorate of the NHIA.
The in-house facilitators from the CAF Directorate comprised the Manager in charge of Customer Relations unit, Miss Ruth Kuukua Ntumy-Coleman, the NHIA Call Centre Manager, Madam Hannatu Mustapha Adam, Senior Manager, Naphtali Awuakye-Kyei Baffour and Senior Manager, Abdul Karim Naatogmah.
The convener, Ag. Director of Corporate Affairs (NHIA), Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah said the exercise sought to sharpen the participants’ knowledge and skills to improve their performance and professional growth.
He spelt out the NHIA newest Chief Executive, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye’s vision fastened to Promotive and Preventive healthcare with free medical checkups, Zero tolerance for illegal charges (co-payments) and the enrollment of 6.3 million children aged between 6 and 14 years onto Ghana cards to access healthcare through the NHIS, mandatory health insurance for visitors to Ghana.
He admonished the participants to stay up to date with the Authority’s mission and work towards attaining their annual targets of increasing the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) active membership.
Mr. Mensah emphasized that all staff should champion transformational change in line with the global agenda of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by the year 2030.
He reiterated the need for the participants to impact the knowledge gained on their colleagues to enhance their skills and productivity.
The Ag. Deputy Director of CAF, Miss Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng encouraged the Regional and District Public Relations Officers, to be proactive in publicizing the NHIS.
She tasked them to frequently write newsworthy articles, send action pictures and footages for extensive coverage, through the NHIS main website, NHIS TV and the various social media channels.
In a similar fashion, the exercise was earlier organized in Tamale and Kumasi, where practical and interactive sessions were interspersed with hands-on-deck group work and at the end, the participants were enlightened to improve their interactive, writing and relationship building skills.
The participants commended the USAID and the NHIA for polishing their knowledge and pledged to apply it in the line of duty.
