A 22-year-old woman who was the start her first paying job in life in April this year is currently fighting for her life in a hospital here in Accra.
Sybil’s neck is broken. She is clinging to life by a hair breathe after she was run over by a group of scammers
According to a Go-Fund-Me page set up by one Cheryl Ayim, (https://www.gofundme.com/f/bedtv-help-for-sybil) a member of Sybil’s family, she is currently in a Hospital in Accra with a broken neck and potential paralysis from the neck down. She has a complete cervical spine injury and needs to be operated upon urgently to stabilize her neck and give her a chance of getting a bit of her normal life back. 4 days after her admission, she went into respiratory distress which necessitated intubation and ventilation. Her prognosis is guarded. Beyond an urgent operation. Sybil faces unspeakable challenges with aftercare, especially in Ghana where there is very limited healthcare and welfare support.
According to Cheryl, Sybil Bannerman (seen in these photos) is an amazing 24-year-old a loving, intelligent, generous, fun-loving, and hard-working daughter, sister, and niece who graduated from university in 2022 and had just been offered her first job due to start in April this year.
She helped out at her cousin’s restaurant whilst waiting eagerly for her first day at work. “Her infectious laugh and warm hugs made her an instant hit with many and had a bright future ahead of her. Sadly, her plans were shattered on the 11th of February, 2023, when Sybil followed up on an advert selling mobile phones. She met the vendors at an agreed location in a suburb of Accra, Ghana and after handing over her money to purchase the phone, the vendors handed her a fake phone and as they made a swift getaway, run her over in the process.
The above is on the ‘Go-Fund-Me’ page titled ‘Help for Sybil’ which has so far attracted 119 donations.
The case of Sybil Bannerman brings into stark relief the unrestrained activities of scammers and con artistes of all kinds in Ghana, and the way and manner the Ghana Police Service, principally, the security agencies and the government has allowed them free reign to operate

Hello everyone.
The beautiful lady you see in these photos is Sybil Bannerman. Sybil is our amazing 24-year-old a loving, intelligent, generous, fun-loving, and hard-working daughter, sister, and niece. Sybil graduated from university in 2022 and had just been offered her first job due to start in April this year.

As a family, we are desperate to give her much-needed assistance, comfort, and dignity, and we need your financial help, no matter how small, to help us do so. We need funds to get through this major operation, and get medical equipment and medication to enable her to live as comfortably as possible under the circumstances. Our hope for Sybil, with your help and generosity, is to reduce her pain as well as provide her every bit of dignity such a lovely person deserves.
Her poor mother, who is currently unwell has been put through enormous stress. Sybil will need 24-hour nursing care, physiotherapy, and psychological intervention after this life-changing experience. Please help us to give Sybil a chance in the future. Thank you all, we will continue to post updates and keep you all informed about Sybil’s journey.
On March 28, 2023, Cheryl Ayim, Organizer, further added to the page;
Hello Friends, just to give you an update on Sybil.
On Thursday, 16th March, Sybil had planned surgery to stabilize her neck, which was delayed as she continued to spike high temperatures due to chest infections.
Whilst this surgery has not in any way restored Sybil’s mobility and she remains paralyzed from her neck downwards, this surgery will enable her to be moved without causing more damage to her spinal cord. We have spent £3500 so far. Currently, we have an outstanding bill of £3000 to pay the hospital, which will inevitably increase as she remains in the hospital.
We are very grateful for all your immense help and support during these challenging times, and we will continue to inform you of her ongoing progress.
