…Over Appointment of Internal Auditor
The recent appointment of an acting Internal Auditor at Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU), Tesano in Accra, is raising eyebrows within the corridors of the University.
Many within the student body and academic staff are wondering why the appointment of an individual in an ‘acting’ capacity, when the university was given authorization to appoint someone substantively.
Daily Searchlight sources at the university reveal that recently, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission granted Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU), Tesano in Accra (previously Ghana Telecom University) the authorization to employ thirty professionals into substantive positions at the University. This became necessary because of the need for the smooth administration of the school.
Among those positions was the position of Vice Chancellor, and several others including the position of Internal Auditor.
Daily Searchlight sources reveal that the position of Internal Auditor was to be appointed substantively in the first place. Secondly, the primary condition was that the person appointed was to have a minimum of ten years’ post qualification experience as Chartered Accountant.
The sources revealed that strangely, and contrary to these guidelines, a person has been appointed to fill that position in an acting capacity.
The person appointed, it has been revealed by our sources, is an individual with less than three years’ experience, contrary to the required minimum years of ten years’ post qualification experience.
The sources suggested that the appointment may be due to efforts by powers that be to put appoint individuals into positions who would bend to the will of the dictates of the powers that be at the university.
The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Ohene Afoakwa, a Professor of Food Science and Technology.
Yesterday, scouts of the Daily Searchlight who tried to cross-check our information at the Public Relations Unit of the University were told that the Public Relations Officer was not in the office at the time of our call.
