A joint statement by the General Secretary of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Mr.Godfred Abulbire and Mr.Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, General Secretary of Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have affirmed the drastic reduction of 15.3% of transport fares.
According to the joint statement by the GPRTU and GRTCC, the reduction in transport fares by 15.3% takes effect on Monday, December 19, 2022.
The statement noted that the percentage of the reduction was agreed on key stakeholders’ engagement.
“With the recent reductions in the prices of petroleum products, it became necessary to engage stakeholders to give consideration to a review of the fares in line with the Administrative Instrument. Consequently, a series of negotiation meetings were held with the stakeholders to agree on an accountable level of fare reduction commensurate with the current fuel prices”, the statement said.
“Following the negotiations and in consideration of the plight of drivers, commuters and the general public, we have resolved to reduce the existing transport fares by 15.3 percent”, the statement added.
According to the statement road transport operations such as Shared Taxis, Intra-City (Tro-Tro), Intercity (Long Distance), and Haulage will be affected by the 15.3% reduction which takes effect on Monday, December 19, 2022.
Drivers and Commuters have been advised to comply with the directive to ensure the successful implementation of the new fares.
“We take this opportunity to assure all transport operators and the general public that we will continue to work in their interest”, it concluded.
