The chiefs of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area in the Western North Region, under the leadership of Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama II, paramount chief of the traditional council have descended heavily on the TV XYZ/Power FM’s presenter over his “attack comments “against their traditional leader for commending Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government on the creation of the Western North Region.
It would be recalled that the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area in the Wiawso Municipality, Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama praised the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government for the creation of Western North Region. This was during the visit by Vice President and the Flagbearer of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Campaign Tour to the region last two weeks for their vision of creating the new region for the good of the Western North Region.
It would be recalled that the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area in the Wiawso Municipality, Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama praised the Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government for the creation of Western North Region during the Vice President and the Flagbearer of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Campaign Tour to the region last two weeks for their vision of creating the new region for the good of the Western North Region.
“What I want to say is that in time past what your party did for us, we appreciate, but without Nana Addo-Bawumia administration, we would not have had the region.
“You did this for us, and today, we are seeing a lot of infrastructural development,” the Chief said.
But in a sharp rebuttal, a presenter at TV ZYX/Power fm in Accra, popularly known in the media fraternity as Oheneba Boamah Bennieh on his show quantified the contributions of successive National Democratic Congress (NDC) government before its creation which the chief gave the credit to only the Akufo-Addo government.
On his show, the presenter criticized and tagged Sefwi Wiawso Manhene as NPP man, calling him names such as “Koo Boye” being the private name of the Paramount Chief which per tradition, is a taboo to be using such a name on him in public.
He went ahead on his programme to condemn Sefwi Wiawso Manhene that he is a disgrace to Ghanaian chiefs and asked him to vacate his position as a Sefwi Wiawso Paramount Chief for exhibiting his political colours in public, which for him it’s against the Chieftaincy Act.
At a press briefing addressed by Nana Elluo Panyin llI, Kyidomhene of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, emphatically stated that Oheneba Boamah’s description of Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama ll, the Paramount Chief of Sefwi Traditional Area in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality as “Taboo”, is a barbaric display of a total gross disrespect for their stool.
In a response to the unqualified journalist Oheneba Boamah’s attack, they said that he Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama ll, a gazetted Paramount Chief of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, who controls six out of the nine districts in Western North Region.
The Kyidomhene, who is also the chief of Sefwi Nsuonsua, pointed out that, Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama ll’s stool controls more than three hundred fifty chiefs with sixty divisional and sub-divisional chiefs in the area. This showcase how powerful Katakyie’s kingdom is for Oheneba Boamah to pass that “arrogant” comment against their leader, saying it is a taboo against their tool.
They emphasized that such attacks, including the accusation that Katakyie Bumagama ll is an NPP supporter, were fabricated lies aimed at undermining his integrity by calling the general the public to consider it as false.
“Nananom only give credit to where credit is due,” they said.
Traditionally, a sheep was slaughtered by the chiefs to perform to rituals to cleanse the stool and asked the ancestor gods to strike Oheneba Boamah Bennieh for showing disrespect to them
Nana advised Journalists to exhibit a high level of professionalism in discharging their duties in order not to inflame passions.
The chief described Oheneba Bennieh of TV XYZ/Power fm as unprofessional journalist who have been raining unnecessary attacks and insults on people anyhow to make them unpopular
He called on him to retract his comments and apologise unreservedly to their chief or face their wrath.
Okyeame Kwaku Boamah Bennieh, father of Oheneba Boamah Bennieh, who serves as linguist at the Sefwi Wiawso Palace condemned the inhuman attitude of his son for speaking against Sefwi land.
He narrated how he suffered beatings from his biological son Oheneba Boamah Bennieh in an attempt to handling similar incidents some years back and called upon the management of the TV XYZ and Power fm to promptly intervene and address the pending attack against the overlord of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama ll, to avert any calamity befalling on him.
On his part, Oheneba Boamah Bennie the veteran radio presenter of Power fm on phone call admitted to be the originator of a viral video accusing Katakyie Kwasi Bugamaga ll, for been an NPP supporter.
He maintained his position not to render any apology to Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama ll, the paramount of chief Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area.
“I don’t see any wrong with my statement and made reference to the Constitution which state categorically that chiefs are not to involved themselves in partisan politics”.
He pledged to accord Katakyie Kwasi Bumagama ll, with the necessary respect, if he distances himself from party politics and stays neutral as a chief.
