Editorial (The Daily Searchlight, May 30, 2022)
On Wednesday, 25th May, 2022, many prominent Ghanaians gathered together at Alisa Hotel in Accra to witness the launch of a product called COA Mixture, a herbal drug manufactured from material gathered in the forests of Ghana.
COA Mixture is reported to have beneficial effects against a wide range of diseases, and has been recommended by Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) as a food supplement.
COA Mixture is now sold widely in Ghana, West Africa and across the world, and there has been much testimony as to its efficacy.
The testimony of COA Mixture, is an indication of the astronomical potential hiding in Ghana’s forests and woodlands, and of its herbal medical potential.
Herbal medicine is often reviled and maligned in favour of traditional western medicine, which has always been a source of astronomical wealth for western pharmaceutical industries. However, COA Mixture, which is produced by COA Industries Limited, threatens to change the negative perception because for once, a herbal medicine producer is attempting to eoploy scientific methods and data gathering to back up the herbal claims.
The potential for this innovation can be truly astonishing and wide-ranging.
We commend the people behind COA Mixture, and it is our hope, that others in the industry would copy the sterling and excellent example.
We also hope that government would offer al the support it can to this emerging industry through regulation, infrastructure and logistics as well as working with other governments to secure a larger market share for COA Mixture.
There is indeed a great gap between our amazing potential and our reality when it comes to the herbal pharmaceutical industry, but if we work very hard at it, we can close that gap with increasing speed.
