Agona Swedru, (C/R) July 19, GNA- The Royal Asona family of Agona Swedru, the children and Swedruman Council of Chiefs have fixed Saturday, November 21, 2022, the burial of the late Nana Kobena Asiedu Ogidigram Botwe II, who died some 10 months ago.
The week- long final funeral rites will begin on November 21, 2022.
This was announced during the 40 days celebration observed on Saturday, July 16 at the Swedru sports stadium.
Nana Kwadwo Amoakwa Boadu V, Agona Duakwahene who announced the date on behalf of Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku X, Omanhene of Nyakrom Traditional Area, cautioned the family, children and Swedruman council of chiefs to desist from any act that will create rancour during the period.
Hundreds of thousands of Swedru citizens including those residents outside the town thronged the sports stadium to participate in the celebration.
It also attracted paramount Queen mothers from Nsaba Traditional Area led by Nana Adjoah Nkansah Aduam and Divisional chiefs from the Gomoa and Awutu Traditional Areas.
Nana Boadu, who is also the Krontihene of Nyakrom Traditional Area urged the citizens of Swedru to cooperate and adapt to the cultural and traditional practices of the area to ensure that the late chief was given a befitting burial.
He said the demise of Nana Botwe had unleashed excessive pain on the people of the Area due to his rich experience in chieftaincy matters as well as his long reign.
Mr Ralph Botchwey, chairman of the funeral committee said the members had a huge task ahead of them to raise adequate funds and logistics to organise the burial of the late Chief.
He made an appeal to citizens of Agona living abroad to contribute towards the funeral.
Mr Botchwey said it was incumbent on the residents at home especially, shop owners, banks, market women, malls and individuals to assist both in cash and kind.
Nana Botwe aged 76, reigned for 53 years and through his dynamism, Agona Swedru was given a facelift.
The chairman said the late chief released lands free of charge to successive governments and other relevant agencies to undertake developmental projects.
Nana Kweku Eseini V, Regent of Swedru said the celebration of 40 days will end traditionally on July 23 and therefore cautioned the citizens to continue to observe rules and regulations put in place to ensure peaceful celebration of the day.
Nana Eseini , who is also Nifahene of Swedruman, commended the funeral committee members for an excellent job done before, during and after the 40 days celebration and expressed optimism that they will rake in more assistance in the months ahead to aid their work.
The Reagent announced that the Regional Minister, Mrs Justina Marigold Assan donated 100 streetlights, while the MP for Agona West Mrs Cynthia Morrison also gave same to the Assembly members to be fixed on the streets of Swedru township as their contribution to ensure security in the Municipality.
