Asamankese (E/R), June 04, GNA – Policy makers, implementers and all other stakeholders have been urged to be guided by the cardinal principles underlying 1992 Fourth Republican Constitution to promote the acceleration of growth and development.
Madam Modesta Annie Sapaty, West Akim Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) made the submission when she addressed Sectoral Heads at Asamankese, as part of activities marking this year’s Annual Constitutional Week celebration.
She said if the cardinal principles of freedom, justice, probity and accountability, respect for fundamental human rights and national unity were strictly adhered to, Ghana would be a better place to live in.
The NCCE Director called on all and sundry to add their voices to the urgent need to amend the constitution to suit current local and global situations.
Madam Sapaty asserted that the constitution, which was a living document, was liable to periodic reviews, to bring reforms that reflected current trends.
The week-long celebration was climaxed with the observance of the Citizenship Week targeted at pupils at the basic level of education.
Madam Sapaty said this year’s sub-theme; “Sustaining our Democracy, Ghanaian Values in Practice: The Role of the Ghanaian Child,” was aimed at igniting the spirits of integrity, patriotism, respect, hard work, discipline, and a host of other values in the children, to enable them grow into responsible adulthood and citizenry.
She said her outfit visited 30 basic schools and addressed over 4,000 pupils in the municipality. The children were also presented with civic education materials.
The NCCE also took the civic education to radio stations, churches, mosques and other groupings in the municipality.
