A section of the security staff operating at the Jubilee House are lamenting about the strange conditions under which they work.

First, they claim that their identity cards have not been renewed for some time, a fact that affects them when they have to produce their identity under question.

Secondly, they claim that they are paid their monthly salaries on table tops instead of through official channels, which means that what they receive may firstly not be what they are actually due, and secondly, they may not be paying taxes, and secondly, they may not be receiving benefits like social security.

Speaking to the Daily Searchlight under conditions of strict anonymity, they alleged that their security cards are issued yearly at the Ministry of National Security (Blue Gate), and effort is made to ensure that the cards are issued early so that they can prove their identity when confronted. The cards are issued in the old year so that they can be covered in the New Year.

“We are however well past the first month of January, and we are still holding 2023 cards,” they said.

With regard to being paid on table tops, they said that that was not the practice with previous administration.

“As government workers, we should be formalized, so that our taxes and social security can be paid for our security. We do not think that paying us on ‘table top’ is the best that the administration can do for us,” they said.
