Wa, July 24, GNA – The Rotary Club of Wa has impacted the lives of over 23,000 people in the Upper West Region through the execution of projects worth US$65,580.00 in the 2021/2022 Rotary Year.

The projects included the donation of 12 boreholes for communities and Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) facilities in six Municipalities and Districts in partnership with Florence Oregon (USA).

Others were the donation of shoes to school children at the Jagluu Basic School under the School Shoes Project in partnership with Rotarian Beatrice of Dzowulu, Accra and free health screening for the people of the Jagluu and surrounding communities in partnership with REACHOUT Africa.

Mr Gaeten Kala, the Immediate Past President (IPP) of the Rotary Club of Wa, revealed this at the handing-over ceremony of the Club in Wa, which also witnessed the induction of three new members into the Club.

Representatives from the Rotary Clubs of Tamale and Techiman, Rotractors, and the Upper West Regional Police Commander, among others, attended the event.

Mr Kala said the Club also donated 15 wheelchairs to physically challenged school children in seven Municipalities and Districts within the period under the Wheelchair Project in partnership with the Wheelchair Foundation and Rotary Ghana.

He said the Club had applied for grants, pending approval, to support a community school at Kpongu and to provide skills-based training for 40 women in Biihe and Sagu communities in the Wa Municipality.

“The Rotary Foundation is the blood of 90 per cent of Rotary Projects and programmes. It is therefore important we as Rotarians support the foundation through donations to enable it continuously to support us to impact more”, he observed.

Mr Stephen Mwinkaara, the Rotarian President (RP) of the Rotary Club of Wa, said the Club would operate under the theme: “Imagine Rotary” in the 2022/2023 rotary year.

“With Rotary, you only imagine what to expect, imagine our projects impact 1000s of people across our communities, imaging supporting schools under trees to get better structures to have their classes…”, he intimated.

He urged Rotarians in the northern zone to work in partnership for the collective improvement of the zone for sustained impact on the lives of the people in the area in the 2022/2023 Rotary year.

He said the Club had partnered the Rotary Club of Accra Ridge to donate sight boxes to the Wa and Akropong schools for the Blind and supported the Rotaract Club of the SDD UBIDS to donate sanitary pads to school children at Dorimon in the Wa West District.

Mr Mwinkaara said the Club anticipated increasing its contribution to the Rotary Foundation from US$500.00 to US$1000.00 and also increasing its membership from 26 to 30.

Mr Baba Alargi Awal, Past Assistant Governor (PAG) of Rotary District 9102, admonished the new members of the Club to be guided by the Rotary Four Way Test: “Is it the TRUTH, is it FAIR to all concerned, Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIP, and Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned.”

He also urged them to extend the spirit of Rotary to the communities and to perform their share of the Club services assigned to them as members.
