The road to the 2022/23 Champions League has started with some of the earliest qualifying matches being scheduled.
A large number of Europe’s elite clubs have qualified already through league position, though a fair few teams can still book their spot in next season’s competition by winning qualifiers throughout the summer.
Here are all the dates you need in the build-up to the 2022/23 Champions League.
Preliminary round semi-finals
Preliminary round final
The draw for the group stage of the 2022/23 Champions League group stage will take place on 25 August in Istanbul.
The 32 competing teams will be drawn into eight groups, with each team seeded into four pots – each of eight teams.
Pot 1 contains the Europa League winners and the champions of UEFA’s top seven associations based on their country coefficients.
Teams from the same association cannot be drawn together. Neither can any sides from Ukraine and Belarus, due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Once all the teams have been assigned groups, it’ll only be a few weeks until the first games of the group stage kick off in September. Most of the action will come in October, with each club playing three times, before the sixth matchday in early November.
Once progression or elimination for all teams has been confirmed by the end of the group stage, draws will be made to determine who faces who in the knockout rounds.
The draw for the last 16 is made on 7 November, with the quarter final, semi final and final paths set out on 17 March.

The final will be held at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul on 10 June 2023.
The stadium previously hosted 2005’s classic final between Liverpool and AC Milan, where the Reds came from 3-0 down to win the trophy on penalties.
Istanbul was supposed to be the scene for 2020’s showpiece, but the Covid-19 pandemic saw the game postponed and moved to Estadio da Luz in Lisbon. 2021 again saw the final taken from Turkey to Portugal, with Estadio do Dragao hosting Manchester City and Chelsea.
