The minister of Agriculture Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto after meeting with the Producer Price Committee of CCOBOD has announced a new producer of Ghana’s cocoa for the 2022/2023 season.
“We are pleased to announce that the government of Ghana has inched up the Producer Price of Cocoa by 21% from GHC 10,560 per tonne to 12,800 per tonne.Ā This represents 89.99 % of the f.o.b value of 64.0 kg gross weight,ā he said.
Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto announced that the new price takes effect from the 7th of October, 2022 cocoa season.Ā Ā
Dr Afriyie indicated that this represents governmentās resolve to help farmers to earn decent income from their toil in tilling the land to make the industry very lucrative.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā
Government is also implementing the Cocoa Farmers Insurance scheme from November, 2022 on pilot basis.Ā
āThis will safeguard the betterment of old farmers in retirement.Ā The committee haveĀ also approved of theĀ rates and fees of all stakeholders in the industry’s supply chain. These include; buyersā margin, haulers rates, fees for disinfection, grading, sealing and scaling, etc,ā he said.Ā
Other enabling measures were announced by the minister to help farmers feel comfortable in the industry to increase productivity.
