Recent happenings in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), portray its executives as very weak and impotent who are not fit for any purpose. Common election regulations proffered by the party to conduct its internal election are shamefully disregarded by no mean the party executives themselves whiles the party as entity looks on helplessly.
It is now becoming obvious that the party is owned by a certain class of members so they have to lead the party at all cost. How on earth can party executives be so defiant and reckless in an open endorsement for particular candidates in an election when the party’s internal regulations admonish them to be neutral so that party unity and cohesion can be assured after the election.
In the Bono and Bono East regions, the regional executives collectively declared their open endorsement for the incumbent General Secretary and joined his campaign as their choice.
This was what happened at the Tamale Congress when particular candidates won their positions but they were not the choice of some individuals at the helm of affairs. These officials, despite their victory at the party congress, were blatantly removed from office to suit the whims and caprices of some individuals.
This blatant removal from office of some officers sowed the seeds for the current impunity in the party.
If a party can thrive in this PATAPAA manner as in the state in which we see the NPP today, it is up to us. The golden silence of the voice that should speak to salvage the NPP from degenerating into a lawless entity is indeed mind boggling.
