Tamale, May 26, GNA – Two non-governmental organisations have appealed for funding support for their ongoing GHS 122,750 project dubbed: “Youth Against Drugs”.
They are Active Youth Global, a Tamale-based NGO focusing on empowering the youth, and Total Life Enhancement Centre (TOLEC Ghana), a psychology centred organisation advocating wellness and mental health.
Ms Rahamatu Issah, Executive Director of the Active Youth Global, said the project needed funding support to engage students through social media campaigns, media tours, preparation of webinars on the youth involvement in ending drug abuse and the production of jingles and videos within the one-year implementation period.
She called for support from individuals and organisations to enhance the vision of the implementing partners and noted that the activities involved in the project were cost-intensive, adding “We need support from all angles to carry out these activities.”
The Youth Against Drugs is projected to contribute to efforts in reducing the levels of illicit drug consumption among the youth as well as raising awareness on the adverse effects these substances have on health.
It also seeks to empower youth groups with adequate information on the hazards associated with non-medical use of psychoactive drugs.
The project, which will end in March, 2023 is being implemented in 40 Senior High Schools (SHS) within the Tamale Metropolis and Sagnarigu Municipality in the Northern Region, and the Savannah and North East Regions.
Mr Peter Amadu Mintir, Executive Director of TOLEC Ghana said the project would provide support services in the areas of psychology, counselling, and capacity building to SHS students within the implementation area.
He said “TOLEC Ghana and Active Youth Global would make meaningful contributions to address drug problems within the schools and challenges faced by the victims”
