The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) conducted a sensitization exercise to enlighten staff from three regions in the North about the 2020 salary and grade structure. The event, held at Mariam Hotel in Tamale, included participants from the Northern, Savanna, and North East regions.
During the opening address, Dr. Sylvester Oppong, a board member, accompanied by Mrs. Joyce Zempare, also a board member, highlighted that the sensitization workshop was part of a nationwide initiative, with ten regions already benefiting. The board identified an equity gap in staff welfare and implemented a new structure in 2020, building upon the 2012 framework to ensure staff progression.
Dr. Oppong urged participants to pay close attention, ask questions, provide input, and act as advocates for the project in their offices. Mr. Dickson Dansu, Deputy Director of Training and Development, led the presentation, emphasizing the goal of dispelling the misconception that staff do not advance in their careers within the NHIA. The presentation aimed to ensure participants understood the new structure to effectively advocate for it in their workplaces.
The interactive session allowed participants to ask questions and offer suggestions for improving the new structure. Mr. Titus Sorey, the Northern Belt Director, expressed gratitude for the board members, resource persons, and staff, noting that the sensitization exercise would motivate staff towards achieving universal health coverage by 2030.
The event concluded with a moment of silence in honor of the late Northern Regional Director, Mr. Issahaque Abdul Latif, who passed away at the Tamale Teaching Hospital on February 19.
