The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the North East region collaborated with Zipline Ghana and donated blood to mark its 20th anniversary.
In an opening address, the Ag. North East Regional Director of the NHIA Mr. George Apetigah said the blood donation exercise forms part of the Scheme’s broader activities to mark what he describes as their 20years of progressive success in the health insurance sector.
He underscored the need to give blood to save other people’s lives.
“This exercise is an embodiment of our collective commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others” Mr. George noted.
He thanked Zipline for the partnership and continuous support anytime they are called upon.
Mr. Apetigah said he was overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response from the institutions and the community towards the blood donation exercise and assured the donors that the blood will be put into good use adding that each donor will be given a certificate by Zipline to serve as a blood donation passport for them or any of their family members should they need blood in future.
The exercise which started at about 10:26am at the forecourt of the old court in Nalerigu attracted a huge array of donors including Staff of NHIS, officers from the Ghana prisons service, Students from Nalerigu Nurses and Midwifery training school, Nalerigu senior high school as well as volunteers from the Nalerigu community. It was capped with new registration, renewal, and education of participants on the MyNHIS App, Ghana card/NHIS linkage among others.
The donors were initially taken through some routine medical checks by the medical team from zipline before they were allowed to donate.
At the end of the exercise, 61 volunteers donated a total of 65 units of blood.
