New FC Goa signing, Alvaro Vazquez has revealed that he is confident of having a more potent season in front of goal in the Indian Super League (ISL) for the Gaurs than he had with Kerala Blasters FC last season.
Vazquez who joined FC Goa after his deal with Kerala Blasters FC expired, believes that the experience of playing in the league last season will help him add to his tally of eight goals.
“The truth is that I am very happy to be at FC Goa, in a place where the club really wants me to be part of their project. My contract with Kerala Blasters ended (on May 31) and Goa were very attentive,” he said in an interview.
What made his move even easier was that he was wanted by FC Goa skipper, Edu Bedia last season itself and that the Spaniard took the lead this time around to make sure that the club got their preferred target.
“Edu was the captain (last two seasons), he is the one who dominates the team’s game. I have already spoken with him and he has told me that he will provide me with a lot of assists and I will be really comfortable (at the club).
“I am here to help the club and take them higher, where they deserve to be. I have known ISL (even before coming to India) and Goa is one of the top clubs. My goal is to ensure that FC Goa fans once again enjoy seeing their club at the top,” the Spaniard added.
FC Goa did not have the best of times on the pitch last ISL season, managing to win only four games which saw them finish ninth in the league table. The Gaurs will be hoping that Vazquez can provide that spark upfront as they look to challenge for the title in the upcoming season.
