The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dakoa Newman, led a delegation from the World Bank on a field visit to inspect pay points for the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme in some communities within the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.
The visit aimed to assess the efficiency and impact of the LEAP cash transfer initiative, which provides support to vulnerable households across the country.
For the combined 91st and 92nd LEAP cycles, beneficiary households will receive payments as follows:
One eligible member households: GH₵ 512.00
Two eligible member households: GH₵ 608.00
Three eligible member households: GH₵ 704.00
Four or more eligible member households: GH₵ 848.00
A total of 325,470 beneficiary households (approximately 1,461,181 individuals) will benefit from this payment.
The visit began with a meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters, where the management briefed the delegation on ongoing LEAP activities and the progress made since the programme’s inception.
After the meeting, the delegation proceeded to the Ayensuano District, where they paid a courtesy call on the District Chief Executive (DCE) and other officials.
At Kwaboanta, the team visited the chief and elders before observing the LEAP payment process at a local pay point. They engaged beneficiaries in discussions about how the cash grants are improving their livelihoods.
The team then visited the Dokrochiwa community, where similar interactions took place.
The Minister and the World Bank team engaged with beneficiaries, gaining firsthand insights into how the LEAP payments are contributing to poverty alleviation in the area.
Hon Dakoa Newman is optimistic that the Ministry’s partnership with the World Bank remains a critical pillar in ensuring the sustainability of this programme and its ability to reach even more vulnerable households across Ghana.
This visit represents the ongoing collaboration between the MoGCSP and the World Bank to strengthen social protection mechanisms, ensuring they effectively reach Ghana’s most vulnerable populations.
