Make agriculture A compulsory subject in schools – Businessman

The Chief Executive Officer of Downwell Agro Ventures in Wenchi of the Bono Region,Mr. Samuel Kwame Fosu is calling on government to make agriculture a compulsory subject in schools in the country.
“For our country to be food secure make agriculture a compulsory subject in schools, that will not only equip students with farming skills but also help to end hunger,” he reiterated.
The agro input dealer added that we can not keep singing that agriculture is the backbone of our economy yet we have made it an optional subject in schools.
“Today almost every other student wants to be a doctor, computer engineering, or other white collar careers, few if any are interested in farming,” Mr Fosu explained.
According to Mr. Samuel Kwame Fosu making agriculture a compulsory subject in schools would bridge this knowledge gap and foster an appreciation for farming and ranching practices among our youth.
He made the call on Friday morning when he presented varieties of seeds to SVD Basic School at Wenchi to aid their school farm project.
“I’m overwhelmed with your efforts of practicing agriculture in your school hence I decided to present this items to you to support your farm project ,”Mr Fosu narrated.
Senior Girls Prefect of the school Naana Takyiwaa Abeam Twum received the items on behalf of the Headmaster, Staff and the entire students body.
She expressed her gratitude to Mr Fosu for his gesture and promoting students in agriculture.
Some teachers who teaches at the SVD Basic School also commended Radio West Africa a Wenchi based radio station for monitoring their activities and promoting it on their medium.
They also thank CEO of Downwell Agro Ventures for coming to their aid and call on other well meaning Ghanaians to emulate Mr Fosu to also support other schools in diverse way to help promote quality teaching and learning within the Wenchi Municipality.
Mr Fabian Bright highlighted some of challenges they are going through and call for support for a lasting solution.
