Upon her appointment in November 2021, the former England youth coach initially signed a short term deal until the end of the 2021/22 season, leaving her long-term future at the club somewhat uncertain prior to penning a contract extension.

Bedford took the Leicester hot seat following the dismissal of Jonathan Morgan, with the Foxes sitting bottom of the WSL. She guided them to their first league wins of the season to steer them to safety during their debut top flight campaign.

“I have enjoyed every moment of my time at Leicester so far and I’m grateful to the club for their continued support and belief in what we’re trying to achieve,” said Bedford.

“This is an exciting place to be right now, as the club continues its investment in the women’s game. I am looking forward to the season starting and believe we are creating an environment that allows players to thrive.

“I would like to place on record my thanks to Kay Cossington, Sue Campbell and the FA for enabling me to take up the initial opportunity here at Leicester last November and their continued support during such an important step forward in my career.”

Bedford guided the Foxes to a pair of wins over relegation rivals Birmingham, in addition to victories over West Ham and Brighton during her first season in charge. Leicester finished the 2021/22 campaign on 13 points, two clear of bottom side Birmingham, to preserve their top flight status.
