On 5th of June 2023, a 12-member delegation from the Audit Committee of the Kenyan National Assembly, led by Hon, Tom Mboya Odege paid a working visit to EOCO. The object of the visit was to understudy EOCO’s mandate and strategy for policy formulation and implementation in Kenya.
The Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo- Danquah, together with her deputies and some Unit Heads welcomed the delegation. In her introductory remarks, she stated the vision, mission and objectives of the Office. She further shed light on the functions of the Office and some preventive strategies such as sensitization programmes for the general public on emerging crime trends. She added that the Office also issues public statements and releases with the view of preventing the unsuspecting public from falling victim to criminals.
A power-point presentation on the mandate of the Office was shared with the delegation, following which the meeting was opened for questions and clarifications on the operations and scope of the Office.
Some issues that were discussed bordered on budget allocation for the office, court orders, whistle-blowers, confiscation, seizure, asset recovery and management, collaboration with foreign partners and remittances of proceeds of crime back to victims or countries.
Hon, Tom Mboya Odege expressed a lot of appreciation to Ghana for having very strong legal regimes that are implemented to the latter. He further told all persons present that they will ensure Kenya will be a beneficiary of all that they have learned from their visit.
The rest of the delegation were very impressed by the magnitude of work the Office has been doing and assured COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo – Danquah of their intentions to replicate the same in Kenya through policy formulation and implementation.
