The Ghana Police Service and the Inspector-General of Police has actually (yes, you read right), actually apologized to a victim of a police attack.

A lady, who was the victim of a sexual attack by a police officer in a viral video, has received the personal apology of the IGP and the Ghana Police Service.

The Ghana Police Service has stated that it has seen a video in which a person in a Police uniform was captured allegedly sexually harassing a female in a car.

It has stated that its review of the video indicates that the male person involved in that shameful despicable act is a Police officer stationed at the Regional Operations Unit, Bono Regional Police Command.

To this effect the Police has immediately arrested the officer and launched an investigation into the incident. The Police officer, No 51530 General Lance Corporal Victor Antwi Yeboah, has been arrested for violating the dignity of the victim and is currently assisting the investigations.

This was contained in a press release by the Ghana Police Service titled “Police Arrest Police Officer Allegedly Harassing a Female Victim in a Viral Video’. It was signed by ACP Kwesi Ofori, Director-General, Public Affairs.

The statement said that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Addo Dampare has reached out and spoken to the victim and assured her of thorough police investigations and any other necessary Police support, including psychological care and trauma therapy.

“The Police Administration further assures the victim and the public that full investigations will be conducted into the matter and the public will be updated in due course.

“We unreservedly apologize to the affected woman in particular for what she experienced and to the public at large since the matter affects the very moral foundation of our country,” the statement said.
