HUAWEI GHANA LTD TO PARTNER EDUCATION MINISTRY TO SUPPORT THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF ICT IN SCHOOLS.

The Methodist Girls Senior High School at Mamfe in the Eastern Region has received 20 laptops from Huawei Ghana Ltd.

The donation of the computers was aimed at boosting the teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the school.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Mamfe on Monday, the Deputy Minister for Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, thanked the management of Huawei Ghana Ltd for its regular support of the development of education in the country.

He described the donation of the computers as coming in handy as the government continue to provide the required resources to schools to enhance effective teaching and learning especially towards the development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour stated that the acquisition of critical thinking and other skills by students remains a priority of the government and described the attainment of Information Technology as very crucial for all irrespective of the field of study.

The Deputy Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Assin South recounted the important role ICT played in the lives of students especially girls. 

He said, “The huge investment being made by the government in the education sector attested to the importance the President attaches to education in the country”.

The Deputy Minister commended the school for the number of local and international robotics awards it had brought into the school leading to a great honour to the nation.

He charged the robotics team in the school to keep working very hard so they can bring more local and international awards into the school.

Rev. Ntim challenged the students to strive to be the best in every field they find themselves studying, adding that, they could be the best if they remained focused at all times.

The Deputy Minister assured the school that efforts were being made to tar all roads in the school to enhance and create a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning. 

Madam Jenny Zhou, the Director for Public and Government Affairs at Huawei Ghana said as a responsible corporate institution, Huawei Ghana was committed to developing education and has over the years contributed in diverse ways towards the development of education in the country.

She commended the education Ministry for prioritizing STEM education and promised to partner with the Ministry to support the teaching and learning of ICT in schools. 

Madam Zhou stated that Huawei believes in bridging the gender gap in ICT and therefore putting in place the right measures to advocate for the promotion of women in technology

“A few weeks ago we joined the Ministry of Education to donate some ICT devices to the Bosomtwe Girls STEM School at Deduako all geared towards promoting the learning of IT in schools, especially for girls”. “I am therefore very happy to be here today to do same hoping that the devices being presented will be utilized to enhance your ICT skills”. She added.

“As an organization, we strongly believe in developing the ICT skills of the citizenry, especially the youth. In light of this, a few days ago we launched our Leadership Employability Advancement and Possibility (LEAP) Program in Ghana to create an opportunity for many Ghanaian youth to develop an interest in acquiring ICT skills to help them in their field of endeavour”. Madam Zhou said.

The Director for Public and Government Affairs stated that through their program, they hope to provide ICT skill training to 100,000+ Ghanaians by 2024 and the youth remain our key focus. 

She urged the students to take advantage of the school environment and the donation to develop their skills for tomorrow.
