Frank Lampard’s Toffees are in possession of the second-longest unbeaten streak in the Premier League, last losing to Aston Villa in mid-August. Manchester United had a brief resurgence of their own punctured by a walloping loss in the Manchester derby last weekend.

Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming meeting between this pair.

Everton team news

Lampard confirmed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be available this weekend, providing the team with “a really big boost”. Centre-backs Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate have both returned to training but aren’t expected to feature just yet.

Nathan Patterson, conversely, has been given an optimistic recovery trajectory of four weeks after suffering a nasty ankle injury last month. Andros Townsend and Ben Godfrey are targeting returns after the World Cup.

Everton Starting 11 (4-3-3): Pickford; Coleman, Coady, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Onana, Gueye, Iwobi; McNeil, Maupay, Gordon.
Bench: Begovic, Keane, Gray, Doucoure, Davies, Vinagre, Rondon, Garner, John.

Man Utd team news

Raphael Varane got injured during the Manchester derby when his side were only trailing 1-0. By the time he eventually gave in to the pain of his ankle problem, City were 3-0 up. The World Cup winner has a chance of making the squad this weekend but fellow centre-back Harry Maguire is set to be on the sidelines.

Donny van de Beek has recovered from a muscle injury but isn’t match-fit just yet. Aaron Wan-Bissaka isn’t expected to feature while nursing a knock.

Man Utd Starting 11 (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Sancho; Rashford.
Bench: Heaton, Ronaldo, Fred, Malacia, Pellistri, McTominay, Elanga, Garnacho, Iqbal.

On the face of it, Everton come into the weekend with the best defensive record in the division. However, no Premier League side has conceded more shots than the Toffees (135) this season, shipping chances worth around double the actual seven goals conceded according to FBref’s expected goals model.

Jordan Pickford’s superb individual start to the campaign helps explain the discrepancy but chance also plays a role. It’s impossible to tell when Everton’s luck will turn but Manchester United will provide motivated opposition with the embarrassment of last weekend’s derby – and perhaps the lessons learned from that defeat – still fresh.

Prediction: Everton 1-2 Man Utd
