The Europa Conference League may not be Europe’s biggest club competition, but there is still plenty of entertaining matches to keep your eye on.

It is, without doubt, the third tier competition in Europe and its long-term future is unknown. Jose Mourinho and Roma won it last year, though, which has given it credibility.

There are a few big-name clubs still involved this year too going into the playoff games for the round of 16, which means plenty of intrigue for us.

Being put in a tough group with Arsenal and PSV, Bodo/Glimt weren’t able to conjure up some Europa League heroics and so will face reigning Polish champions Lech Poznan in the Conference League. They’ve had some memorable results in the competition before, beating Roma and Celtic, and will be aiming to make their mark again.

Two of the biggest sides left in the Conference League will go head to head when Braga welcome Fiorentina to Portugal. The hosts finished third in their Europa League group to Union Saint-Gilloise and Union Berlin while the visitors came second to Basaksehir in their Conference League group, so there’s plenty of room for improvement for both sides.

Trabzonspor’s weekend match was postponed due to the earthquakes that have hit Turkey, but UEFA have stated that their match with Basel will go ahead.

Both sides will be hoping to kickstart their seasons having had somewhat mediocre domestic campaigns thus far.

Qarabag narrowly missed out on a spot in the Europa League playoffs, finishing a point behind Nantes, while Gent scored a point more than Molde to scrape into the next round of the Conference League, where the two sides will meet.

Lazio’s European campaign has thus far been a disaster with them crashing out in the Europa League group stages, finishing below Feyenoord and Midtjylland.

On the bright side, dropping into the competition below has given them a big chance to win a trophy, and they’ve been given what should be a straightforward first tie against Cluj.

The home side are the underdogs in this clash with Dnipro-1 enjoying an excellent campaign, currently sitting top of the Ukranian league ahead of Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv. AEK are leading the Cypriot league though and have lost only eight of their 36 matches in all competitions this season.

Ludogorets and Anderlecht have had contrasting domestic campaigns with the Bulgarian club just a point off top and the Belgian side languishing down in 10th in the Pro League.

Anderlecht’s form has improved since Brain Riemer replaced Felice Mazzu as manager though, and they’ll feel they have enough quality to win this tie.

Both Sheriff Tiraspol and FK Partizan have played little in 2023 with their seasons only now getting back up and running, and both will fancy their chances of starting their years well in what should be an evenly matched tie.
