GOV’T, ORGANIZED LABOUR REACH AGREEMENT ON 15% COLA

The Government of Ghana, represented by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations (MELR), Ministry of Education and Ministry of National Security and Organized Labour, comprising identifiable workers Unions and Associations within the Public Service of Ghana, yesterday reached agreement to peg the Cost of Living Allowance at 15%.

Sections of Organized Labour have withdrawn their services in recent times over complaints on high cost of living and were demanding a 20% cost of living allowance across board.

But in an agreement reached yesterday, 14th July, 2022, it was agreed that the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) will be paid at a rate of 15% of base pay.

It was also agreed that the effective date of payment of the COLA is 1st July 2022 and that all industrial actions underway and threats of same will be called off immediately, and that Labour would return to work forthwith.

The agreement was signed by Hon. Ignatius Baffuor Awuah (MP), Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Hon Ken Ofori Atta, Minister for Finance for government.

Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, Secretary General, TUC, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, President, GRNMA signed for organized labour whilst Ing Benjamin Arthur, Chief Executive, signed for FWSC.
