The Argentinian figure kicked off his professional career with River Plate, before moving abroad to feature for giants Real Madrid, Napoli and Juventus. Higuain also saw loan stints with Chelsea and AC Milan, extending his numbers to over 100 European appearances and 250 goals.

He joined Inter Miami in 2020, ahead of their inaugural Major League Soccer season to cap off his career. Higuain has been a standout for the South Florida expansion team, recording 27 goals and 24 assists across two seasons.

Internationally, he’s scored 31 goals in 75 appearances, the fifth-most of any player in La Albiceleste history. Higuain has appeared in three editions of the FIFA World Cup, including in the 2014 final, and three Copa América tournaments to help Argentina reach the final twice.

The forward is set to finish strong, managing 12 goals throughout the 2022 campaign to inspire Inter Miami to sit on the brink of their first postseason run. The team has two regular-season games remaining before clinching the playoff ticket, giving Higuain one last chance to make history with the Herons.

Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville has previously spoken on the impact Higuain has over his team, and the hole he will leave once retired. Beyond any contributions on the pitch, his departure will leave Inter Miami with a Designated Player slot open on the roster.
