Nsuta Wassaw (W/R), July 03, GNA-Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMCL) Ladies Association has distributed 1,200 sanitary pads and some medicated soap to schoolchildren in their host communities.

The donation formed part of activities to celebrate the 2022 Menstrual Hygiene Day which falls on May 28, each year.

Madam Korkor Addy, the Head of Human Capital of GMCL, said: “We embarked on this programme as part of our corporate social responsibility and the idea behind it was to educate the girls from five schools on personal hygiene.”

She indicated that “these young ladies are going to be our future leaders and we need to ensure they take good care of themselves by observing good personal hygiene, so they get the foundation right.”

In addition, Madam Addy, said the girls were taken through steps on how to put on their sanitary pads and educated on menstrual hygiene management.

She appealed to parents to assist the girl-child to practice personal hygiene especially during their menstruation so they do not contract infection which could pose serious health risk.

Mrs Cynthia Quaidoo, Secretary GMCL Ladies Association, called on other organizations to help make menstrual products available for girls in their respective communities and intensity education on menstruation to break the stigma and taboos around it.
