The Ghana Institute of Journalism has brought to the limelight its first-ever Homecoming event geared toward the ability of students to be able to interact with some Alumni such as Umaru Sanda Amadu, a Broadcast Journalist on Citi FM and Citi TV Conglomerate, Saddick Adams, a Sports Journalist who won the GJA Awards in 2018 among others to share their experiences in GIJ and also their word of thought.
Umari gave students more insight as to the relevance of equipping themselves with more skills and hard work in other to break even in their Journalism Careers.
“We are in the Era of Innovate or Die. Therefore in some time to come, there would be a shift in the mode of news delivery. Based on scientific approaches and thoughts, the Print Media such as News Papers and Broadcasting such as Radio and Television will be outmoded due to the existence of Technology which is going to have a great impact,“ he said.
Innovative Platforms such as Instagram Live, Clubhouse, Twitter Space, and Online Sites will become more relevant. Therefore, I urge you all to Utilise your Mobile Phones, get Knowledge and You will go far,” Umaru Amadu.
Saddick Adams also shared some challenges he faces as a sports journalist whose mode of language delivery is most often in the local dialect.
“In all parts of the world, the Ghanaian Local Language is looked down upon in so many countries. The English Speaking journalists are more regarded and deemed to be fit and knowledgeable than the local language-speaking Journalists but I strongly believe that there should be no difference when one follows the right process to deliver,” Saddick Adams.
