Report by Joseph Nana Yaw COBBINA
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government will not shoot and kill galamseyers because they are also
Ghanaians and the party sees nothing wrong in their operations.
Speaking at the official campaign launch of Prestea Huni Valley Constituency, the NPP running mate Dr
Mathew Opoku Prempeh set the record straight that the government has no intention to halt the menace
of galamsey operations, not to talk of shooting them.
“The NDC cannot teach us how to govern, so they should seize the galamsey propaganda media hype
because it won't manifest in anything. This is pure bad politicking in our democratic dispensation,” he
said.
He said now that the government has laid down procedures to protect roads, river bodies and forest
reserves. It has also registered small scale mining through community mining scheme to enable the
mining to be properly regularized.
Dr Opoku Prempeh assured miners in the constituency that the government will continue supporting
mining communities with requisite equipment to ensure that they engaged in proper regularized mining
and not degradation of farm lands and pollution of water bodies.
He emphasized that the NPP government is the only political party that believes in infrastructural
development and pleaded with them to vote massively for H.E. Mahamudu Bawumia and Hon Barbara
Oteng Gyasi.
According to him, a vote for NDC is to deprive them from infrastructural development and to stop their
mining operations.
Meanwhile the Parliamentary Candidate for Prestea Huni Valley, Hon Lawyer Barbara Oteng Gyesi said
her track record in the constituency will surely do the trick in wrestling the seat from NDC.
According to her, she organised an annual party for over 500 children in Aboso Kokoase community.
Again, she supported the Wassa Hemaa football gala match cup which saw young talented players in the
community emerging.
Hon Oteng Gyasi said she donated GHC 20,000 to support brilliant and needy students admitted at both
UMaT and KNUST.
Notwithstanding that, the Abroso ladies and gents association also received an amount of GHC 10,000.
Hon Lawyer Barbara Oteng Gyasi hinted the need of supporting a person with disabilities in Ayensukrom
No.1 with a seed capital.
