Finance Ministry commiserate with family of John Kumah

Accra, March 7, GNA – The Ministry of Finance has commiserated with the family of Dr John Ampontuah Kumah, a Deputy Finance Minister.

“At this difficult period, we join Ghanaians and several well-wishers, who are still in

shock, to pray for divine comfort for his beloved wife, children, and family,” the Ministry said in a press statement copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, March 7.

The Ministry eulogised the minister, saying: “Since January 2021, the late Dr John Kumah has been a valued member of our leadership team driving reforms to restore macroeconomic stability and economic transformation.”

Expressing sorrow about the sudden passing the Member of Parliament for Ejisu, the Ministry said: “May his dear and gentle soul find eternal rest in the bosom of the Lord.”

The legal practitioner and lawmaker died on Thursday, March 7, 2024, and was survived by a wife and six children. 

The Ghana News Agency observed a solemn atmosphere earlier on Thursday when it visited the Ministry upon the news of the passing of the deputy minister.

Dr Kumah assumed office as the deputy finance minister in 2021, and served on Parliament’s Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises and Appointment Committees.

He was the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), a centre to stimulate growth in Ghana’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Under his leadership, the programme trained some 7,000 start-ups in 2018 under the Presidential Business Support programme and supported 1,350 beneficiaries with funds.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with Philosophy at the at the University of Ghana, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Law) LLB in 2011.

He also had a Professional Law Certificate from the Ghana School of Law in 2013, and admitted to the Ghana Bar in 2013.

Prior to working for the government, Dr Kumah was the founding member and Managing Partner of Aduaprokye Chambers, a law firm.

He also worked as the founder of Majak Associates Ltd, a building and construction company.
