The Ghana Education Service (GES) has received support from the world football governing body to help implement the FIFA Footballs for Schools Project.
As part of the support, FIFA donated 30,000 Case 4 Size footballs to GES to be distributed to 6,000 Basic Schools across the country for pupils between the ages of 7 and 14 years to use.
The GES in collaboration with the GFA and FIFA, has trained 50 selected P.E & Sports Coordinators at the Ghanaman Soccer School of Excellence in Prampram on how to use a newly developed FIFA APP to impart practical knowledge in football and life skills to unearth the talents in our schools.
These trained P.E & Sports Coordinators are also expected to train MMDAs P.E & Sports Coordinators, P.E & Sports Teachers, Sports Secretaries, Classroom Teachers, Learners in the Pre-Tertiary and Tertiary levels, and the public to enhance the use of the FIFA APP which is a free APP.
The aim of the FIFA Footballs for Schools Project is to give both boys and girls equal opportunities to develop their full potential to become elite performers and good citizens.
Mr. Michael Ntow Ayeh, the Head of P.E & Sports at the GES, who received the donation on behalf of Management thanked FIFA and the GFA for the gesture and promised the Service would put the footballs and the technical knowledge to good use.
The Head of P.E & Sports added that the Greater Accra Region has taken delivery of 2,400 footballs as their share of the balls after having trained their 29 District P.E & Sports Coordinators, and the next Region to receive their footballs would be the Eastern Region.
