Portland Timbers forward Felipe Mora is set to miss the remainder of the 2022 Major League Soccer season after undergoing cartilage restoration surgery on his left knee this week.

The rehabilitation process for Mora is expected to be roughly nine months, keeping him on the sidelines through May 2023.

Mora previously underwent arthroscopic debridement surgery on his left knee on February 18, before returning to the pitch to score one goal in seven substitute appearances.

He’s been a staple for the Timbers since joining in 2020 on loan from Liga MX side Pumas UNAM. He initially arrived on loan, before completing a permanent transfer in January 2021.

Mora has managed 19 goals and seven assists in 55 regular-season appearances, and helped the Timbers host the 2021 MLS Cup.

With Mora on the sidelines, Portland Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese is expected to depend on Designated Player Jaroslaw Niezgoda and Nathan Fogaca for the attack. The team currently sits in seventh on the Western Conference table with 31 points in 23 games and a record of 7W-6L-10D.

With 11 games left to play, it’s looking like the Timbers will feature in the MLS playoffs once again.
