The Economic and Organised Crime Office  (EOCO) has issued a statement announcing the confiscation of 37 luxury cars allegedly stolen from the United States of America (USA) and Canada, and the arrests of 10 garage owners.
The statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Madam Faustina Lartey corroborated the arrest of ten (10) garage owners in Accra after an intelligence-led investigation found thirty-seven (37) luxury cars believed to have been stolen from the United States of America and Canada.
The statement noted that the operation was carried out in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Royal Canadian Mounted Mice (RCMP).
“On Friday, December 9, 2022, thirty-seven (37) of such vehicles were retrieved from some garages in Accra during which ten (10) persons were arrested. The suspects have since been questioned and granted inquiry bail,” the statement added.
EOCO is, therefore, admonishing prospective vehicle buyers to conduct due diligence before any vehicle procurement.
The agency has assured the general public to provide updates on further developments regarding the ongoing investigation in due course.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office is a specialized agency established by the EOCO Act 2010 (Act 804) to monitor and investigate economic and organized crime and on the authority of the Attorney General to prosecute these offenses to recover the proceeds of crime. As part of the functions of the Office, it co-operates with relevant foreign or international agencies in furtherance of its objectives.
