Toone was already on a long-term deal until 2025 signed last November but has since reached new heights for both club and country, playing a starring role with the latter at Euro 2022.

The 23-year-old has been with United since the first-team squad was reformed in 2018, having previously spent six years in the club’s youth system.

Toone described herself as ‘delighted’ and insists there is ‘nowhere better for me to learn’.

She said, “To play for my childhood club I support is really special and I’ll never get tired of pulling on the Red shirt. To now be able to do that for even longer is a proud moment for me and my family.”

United boss Marc Skinner has spoken consistently highly about Toone ever since he took over.

“Ella’s long-term commitment to Manchester United is yet more proof of the club’s continued investment in the future success of this team. Ella has always been and remains a key member of our squad on and off the field,” he said.

The deal also marks a first major tick for new head of women’s football Polly Bancroft.

“Ella epitomises everything Manchester United stands for, and her new long-term contract reflects the club’s ambition of continued growth and success, with a role model of her quality at the centre,” Bancroft explained.

Toone was the first United player to reach 100 appearances for the club and has still played more games (110) than anyone else. She is also the club’s leading goalscorer on 43.
