Koforidua, June 16, GNA – The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has registered about 340 street food vendors as part of the ‘Street Food Vending Scheme’ as of the close of March, in Koforidua.

Mr. Samuel Kwakye, Eastern Regional Head of FDA who disclosed this in an interview with GNA said the scheme was to ensure food safety and hygiene to protect the consuming public.

He said most people buy food from street vendors, hence the need to ensure that they meet the standards for safety of the consumers.

He noted that the scheme was being piloted in four selected Districts in the Region, namely New Juaben South, Kwahu West, New Juaben North and Nsawam Adoagyiri.

There is an inspection exercise at places where foods for sale are prepared and points of selling alongside the registration.

Environmental Health Officers from the four districts have been trained by the FDA to do the inspection on behalf of the FDA to meet the objective.
