The FA Trophy is where the semi-professionals of the world come to play. It’s a competition enjoyed by humble supporters up and down the country, with the reward for the two finalists being an unforgettable experience under the Wembley arch.

Teams from the fifth to eighth tiers of the English football pyramid are eligible to compete, meaning that some professional clubs can still be involved. Primarily, though, the FA Trophy is about gifting small-town clubs the opportunity to compete on football’s grandest stage.

Here’s what you need to know about the 2022/23 competition.

The first qualifying round of the 2022/23 FA Trophy took place in early September. The qualifying rounds concluded in early October with the first round getting underway later that month.

All ties are scheduled for 15:00 kick-offs on Saturday 11 February:

The FA Trophy quarter-finals will take place on the weekend of Saturday 11 March 2023, with the draw to be held upon completion of the fifth round. Eight teams take part in the quarter-finals.

The FA Trophy semi-finals will take place on the weekend of Saturday 1 April 2023, with the draw to be held upon completion of the quarter-finals round.

Four teams take part in the semi-finals, with the draw determining who plays at home. They’re not held at Wembley.

The two semi-final winners will compete in the FA Trophy final on Sunday 21 May, 2023.

The final will be held at Wembley.

National League side Bromley are the current holders of the FA Trophy after they beat Wrexham 1-0 in last season’s final.

It was the club’s first FA Trophy triumph.

Three teams have won the FA Trophy three times. The now-defunct Scarborough lifted the trophy three times in the 70s, while Woking United were champions on three occasions in the 90s.

Telford United, meanwhile, triumphed in 1971, 1983 and 1989 before their extinction.

There is no broadcaster for the FA Trophy until the final, which is shown by BT Sport.
