The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has assured the Ga people of his readiness to help revamp the teaching of the Ga language and the development of education in the region and the rest of the country.
He stated that he was ready to partner the Ga Mantse and all other stakeholders to turn around the fortunes of the Ga people through education which held the key to poverty reduction.
Dr Adutwum announced this when he had a meeting with the Ga Mantse, King Tackie TeikoTsuru II, at his private residence in Accra on Thursday.
The visit which was at the request of the Ga Mantse was aimed at discussing the best ways of improving education development in the Ga state and the rest of the country.
During the visit, the Ga Mantse appealed to Dr Adutwum to help improve the teaching and learning of the Ga language in schools in the Greater Accra region.
This, the Ga Mantse wanted to be done by posting teachers who had the expertise in the teaching and learning of the Ga language in Basic schools in the region.
The Education Minister spoke about the need to deepen the dialogue on how best to could work together to improve the lives of the people.
He stated that a research team from the Education Ministry would soon be deployed to the inner city of Accra to understudy the current state of affairs and plan the best ways of resolving any education related challenges that might be discovered after the research.
Dr Adutwum who is the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe assured the Ga Mantse that he would liaise with the management of the Ghana Education Service to ensure that teachers who had the know-how in the teaching and learning of Ga language would be posted to the region to help teach it to revive the language which was facing extinction due lack of teachers to teach it in the region.
The Ga Mantse, King Tackie TeikoTsuru II, said he was ready to put in place the right measures to help improve the lives of the people especially those in the inner city who had little education and as such were much prone to poverty.
He pledged to collaborate with the various stakeholders in the education sector to improve education development since that was the best way of fighting poverty and improving the lives of the people.
The Ga Mantse appealed to the government to consider granting scholarships to some youth from the Ga state to pursue various courses at tertiary institutions in the country.
This, according to him would ensure that many youths would be able to acquire the best knowledge in various skills so they would be able to compete well in any part of the world in the job market.
Background
In November last year, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, paid a courtesy call on the Ga Mantse, at his palace in Accra.
It was during this visit that the Ga Mantse appealed to the President to help revive the teaching and learning of the Ga language in the Greater Accra region.
This, the President assured the Ga Mantse by liaising with the Education Ministry and all other stakeholders to help revive the teaching and learning of the Ga language in the Greater Accra region.
The courtesy call by Dr Yaw Adutwum was a follow up on the discussion on how to help improve the teaching and learning of Ga in the region.
