Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/R), July 08, GNA – The Dormaa Central branch of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (ProTOA) of Ghana says it will cooperate with the Municipal Assembly and other stakeholders for the effective management of the newly constructed lorry terminal at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Enoch Gyabaah, the local Chairman of the Union, said although they were not involved in the initial designing of the terminal, the Union restrained itself from complaining to ensure that the Municipality did not lose the project under the Ghana Secondary City Support Programme of the World Bank.

The Assembly last Monday relocated about 700 commercial drivers from the old lorry station to the new terminal near the Volta River Authority office, off the Dormaa Ahenkro-NkrankwantaĀ  road.

The relocation exercise was conducted amid confusion over the unequal demarcation and allocation of sheds for the transport unions to serve as temporary shelters and bases for passengers to buy tickets.

Construction works on permanent ticket offices at the new terminal have reached an advanced stage, but the leadership of ProTOA had expressed discontent with the lack of sheds for its members.

Mr. Gyabaah said the Union now spent GhC30.00 each day to hire a canopy to sit under it to serve tickets to passengers, pending the completion of the ticket offices.
