Dome District Office of NHIA Organizes Blood Donation Exercise

The Dome District Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has organized 2nd blood donation exercise as part of the celebration of the 20-year anniversary of the National Health Insurance Authority in Accra.

It was held on the theme; of 20 years of care, one pint at a time: Donate for Life and sponsored by Spring Consult, Angel Broadcasting Network, Jos Ministries, The Community Hospital of New Ashongman, and Ambassador Mike Oquaye Junior.

Staff of the office were screened for various ailments such as blood pressure, cholesterol, sugar level, eye test, and diabetes among others as volunteers donated blood to support the National Blood Service to save people and patients in need of blood with side attractions comprising quiz competition, fun games among others.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Chief Executive for Administration and Human Resources, Dr. Yaa Pokua Baiden (Mrs.) said, the donation exercise forms part of the effort to save the lives of people who are in critical need of blood.

According to her, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has hugely impacted positively on the health needs of Ghanaians and however attracted global attention compelling countries around the world to visit the country to understudy the scheme.

“Government have put in place of fervent preparations as part of the drive to intensify the digitalization of the operations to every part of the country for easy access to the scheme and health care. 

She therefore urged the citizens to regularly donate blood to save lives, adding that, it plays a pivotal role towards the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by the year 20230 and again thanked the voluntary donors for their unflinching support.

For his part, the Director for Community Hospital Ashogman Estates Dr. Obed Boamah urged people to periodically check on their health to enable them be abreast of their health status. 

He thus urged staff and residents to take advantage of such health screaming exercise and advised people to eat healthy diet.

Mr. Felix Tetteh, A Blood Donor Recruiter, at the National Blood Service, also called on Ghanaians to continue to donate blood in an effort to come to the rescue of people who need blood to support health challenges.
