CSIR college governing board tasked to give strategic direction to the establishment

Accra, July 19, GNA- Professor Robert Kingsford Adaboh, Chairman of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Tuesday inaugurated a 13-member governing board of the CSIR College of Science and Technology (CCST) in Accra.

The Board chaired by Prof. Jophus Anamoah-Mensah, a CSIR Council appointee, was tasked to give strategic direction to the college for the next three years.

They were also charged to strengthen collaborations with other government agencies that were also doing well in the area of science and technological research in the country.

Prof Adaboh said CSIR was the backbone of the country’s scientific research mandated to carry out scientific and technological research for national development.

“I know you are all capable and also willing to help execute this pressing agenda as science and technology is currently the pivot for any developing economy,” he said. 

He urged the board to give up their best to help build a resilient science and technology institution capable of affecting the larger economy to help the country develop.

Prof Adaboh also called for a synergy between the board and the council to ensure work transparency. 

Prof Anamoah-Mensah thanked the council for the confidence reposed in them.

“I believe that looking at the calibre of people on the board, we will give the college the needed assistance in making science and technology a vibrant subject that will be marketing the research works of the Council,” he said.

According to Prof. Anamoah-Mensah, the CCST would be running a PhD programme next year.

Prof. Paul P. Bosu, Director-General, CSIR, urged the board to WORK through their efforts to make the CCST grow and flourish.

“We have no doubt you will deliver, govern and direct affairs to be leading providers of quality science knowledge,” he said.

Members of the Board are Prof. Jophus Anamoah-Mensah, Chairman; Prof. Mark Appiah, CCST President, Member; Rev. Prof. Hans Adu-Dapaah, CCST Vice President, Member; Prof. Paul P. Bosu, Director-General CSIR, member; Prof. Moses B. Mochiah, Director CSIR-CRI, Kumasi, Member; Prof. Mohammed Anokye Adams, Representative of University of Cape Coast Vice-Chancellor, Member and Dr Paul Effah, President, Radford University, Member.

The others are Mrs. Carlien Bou-Chidid, Development and Management Consultant, Member; Mr. Nicholas Adoboe-Mensah, Financial Consultant, Member; Dr Stephen Nwolley, Representative Association of Ghana Industries, Member; Prof. Mohammed M. Buri, Representative of Convocation, member; Prof Mrs. R.E.M Entsua-Mensah, Director, Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Co-opted member and Mr. Caleb Aseye Senoo, a Representative of Junior Members of the College, Member. 

Established by the council in 2012 and accredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission in September 2015, the CCST has the vision of becoming the leading provider of quality science and technology education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa.
