The 2023 closed season for hunting, capturing, and destroying wildlife has been officially announced from 1st August to 1st December this year.
Mr. Samuel Annan – Riverson, the Manager for Bui National Park, indicated that the ban was in conformity with the Wildlife Conservation Regulations,1971 (L. I 685), which prohibits all forms of interference with bush animals.
He stated that the only exception is the hunting and trading in grass cutter which can be done only with valid hunting and trading in bush meat license from the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission.
The Park Manager noted that the closed season was one of the ways to protect the different species of wildlife, to procreate and nurture young ones as nature demands.
Mr Annan – Riverson said wild animals contribute significantly to the protection of the environment, and without them, the forests cannot thrive for living and other recreational activities including the attraction of tourists and holidaymakers.
“Protecting the wildlife and their habitats at all cost is the surest way to safeguard the forests, especially when the impacts of climate change are increasingly becoming a threat to the planet earth and our survival” he emphasized.
The Park manager urged the Wildlife Division which has the mandate to protect wildlife in Ghana to be more committed to its duty of ensuring that wild animals are protected for future generations.
He noted that the general public needs to comply with the initiative to help the Wildlife Division to effectively protect the country’s wildlife and their habitats, to get revenue for community projects and other socio – economic growth.
Mr. Annan – Riverson implored hunters, bush meat traders, local restaurant operators to look for other alternatives to get meat for their businesses within the next four months.
The Park Manager warned that anyone who will go contrary to the directives for the next four months to hunt or capture any wild animal or  whatsoever, will face the full rigorous of the law.
He noted that interesting sceneries including hippo viewing and boat cruising, sunrise and sunset view, nature hiking, visit the historic Banda cave, the conical hill, and Spider Island are best enjoyed at the Bui National Park.
Mr. Annan – Riverson encouraged churches, schools, families, and individuals among other local and foreign tourists to patronize the park, to contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
