BLOODY SATURDAY! …. As Slew Of NPP MPs Fall In Primaries

There was heavy bloodletting on Saturday when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) finally held primaries for aspirants who are sitting Members of Parliament.

At the end of the process, nearly twenty percent (20%) of members of parliament who had hoped to retain their seats, found themselves losing the vote.

Among those who could not succeed in their come-back bid are Freda Prempeh (Tano North), Sarah Adwoa Safo (Dome Kwabenya), Isaac Kwame Asiamah (Atwima Mponua), Tina Mensah (Weija Gbawe), Shiela Bartels – Ablekuma North, Eugene Boakye Antwi (Subin), Dr. Adomako Kissi (Anyaa Sowutuom), Moses Anim (Trobu), Collins Augustine Ntim (Offinso North), Kwasi Owusu Africa-Mensah (Amasaman), and Bright Wireko-Brobby (Hemang Lower Denkyira).

Others are Joseph Cudjoe (Effia), Ama Pomaa Boateng (Juaben), John Bennam (Zabzugu), Hanson Nii Noi Nortey (Tema Central), Elvis Donkor (Abura Asebu Kwamankese), Erickson Abeka (Shama), Akwasi Darko Boateng (Bosome Freho), Kwadwo Asante (Suhum) and Mahama Seini (Daboya).

More of those who lost the comeback bid are Gifty Twum Ampofo, (Abuakwa North), Okyere Agyekum (Fanteakwa South), Emmanuel Anhwere (Atwima Nwabiagya), Emmanuel Gyamfi (Odotobri), Amankwah Asiamah (Fanteakwa North), Kwadwo Asante (Suhum), Osei Frimpong (Abiriem), George Obeng Takyi (Manso Nkwanta), Mahama Asei (Daboya Mankarigu) and Lariba Abudu (Walewale).

In addition to those who lost the primaries on Saturday, the NPP side in parliament would see a different complexion as several MPs with experience also did not contest. 

Among them are Osei Kyei- Mensah-Bonsu (Suame Constituency – Ashanti Region) who has been in Parliament since 1997, Kennedy Agyapong (Assin Central Constituency), who has been in Parliament since 2001, and Joe Ghartey (Essikado Ketan Constituency), who has been in Parliament since 2005.

Others are Kwasi Amoako-Atta (Atiwa West Constituency), who has been in Parliament since 2009, Daniel Botwe (Okere Constituency), who has been in Parliament since 2009, Samuel Atta Akyea (Abuakwa South Constituency) who has been in Parliament since 2009 and Joseph Osei-Owusu (Bekwai Constituency- Ashanti Region) who has been in Parliament since 2009.

Yet others are Francisca Oteng (Kwabre East Constituency), who has been in Parliament since 2017, Kojo Kum (Ahanta West Constituency) who has been in Parliament since 2017, Suleman Sanid (Ahafo Ano North Constituency) who has been in Parliament since 2017, Francis Manu-Adabor (Ahafo Ano South-East Constituency) who has been in Parliament since 2017.

Others who evinced no interest in coming back are Johnson Adu (Ahafo Ano South West Constituency) who has been in Parliament since 2013, William Owuraku Aidoo (Afigya Kwabre South Constituency) who has been in Parliament since 2013, Carlos Ahenkora (Tema West Constituency) who has been in Parliament since 2017, Benito Owusu-Bio (Atwima Nwabiagya Constituency) who has been in Parliament since 2005, Emmanuel Marfo (Oforikrom Constituency) who has been in Parliament since 2017, and Dr. Kwaku Afriyie (Sefwi Wiawso Constituency) who has been in Parliament since 2017.
