Report by Edward FRIMPONG
The Ghana Police Service has stated that it is investigating accusations that some of its officers assaulted a man to death.
Before his death, the deceased had been reported to be holding a large sum of money in a bag, which the police officers had allegedly insisted on opening and inspecting.
This was contained in a statement dated 31st January 2023, announcing the commencement of investigations on the alleged murder of the Gospel musician’s brother by officers.
According to the Police, the Gospel musician, Perpetual Didier has accused the officers of brutalizing her brother to death. She has been contacted to assist with the investigation.
The Gospel musician Perpetual Didier revealed that the 32-year-old man called Shadrach Arloo had withdrawn an undisclosed amount of money for the purchase of some items when he was stopped for a search by the police.
“The security officials confronted him to disclose the content of his bag but he had told them it contained only a large amount of cash. Shadrach refused to obey instructions at the behest of the officers for fear that an illegal substance may be planted inside his bag by the officers,” Didier told the press.
On the cause of the misunderstanding, Perpetual Didier recommended that they proceed to a police station for him to disclose the content but unfortunately, the officers paid a deaf ear during which he was violently shoved to the ground and hit his head on a hard substance. She added that he was further shocked by the taser after which he died.
The case has been reported at Kasoa SCC police station while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the
Police Hospital Mortuary.
The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has commenced investigations into the obscure demise of Shadrach Arloo and has contacted Perpetual Didier to assist with the investigation.
